States vs Federal Rights Play Out

The conflict between the federal government's Executive Branch and California's Executive Branch is seen by some as a potentially dangerous precedent. However, it provides an opportunity for the Supreme Court (or Congress, if they choose) to clarify the rules in this politically charged dispute over something that is clearly illegal. Migrants entering the United States without following the proper procedures are not doing so legally. If they claim "asylum," a different legal process applies. Therefore, the federal government certainly has the authority to address illegal immigration if it chooses. However, does a state executive branch have the right to resist when the federal branch has jurisdiction, motive, and intent? I believe not, but we will find out. The news may portray this as if we're on the brink of another civil war, but remember, drama sells. You may see politicians grandstanding, but ultimately, the non-politically motivated Supreme Court will compare the facts to the law and provide much-needed clarification for the future. We the People are greater than any politician, regardless of their position.
